My Resting Heart rate is 56-68-Should I be worried?

23 Mar

I run on my treadmill 3-4 times a week. I eat healthy and I have good cholesterol and blood pressure.

I have taken my pulse for a full minute and some times is as low as 56.

I have no dizziness, shortness of breath or any other symptoms.

I was in ER over a 6 weeks ago with irregular heartrate (a fib). This was fixed on its own through some medicine and i have had no re-occurrence since, I have also been to 2 cardiologists and both said my heart was fine. I have done echo, stress test and heart xray. I don’t take any medicine as the docs think it was a one time thing

I do notice a rise in pulse after i eat. I should say a rise in rate and strength.

Should i worry or am i just being paranoid? I have to admit I have been super anxious since this episode and have lost about 26 pounds through diet and exercise.

Im not in terrible shape and can play sports and not get tired out. I am 5 10, 280…very muscular but have a good amount of belly fat, which i have been working on

    Your heart rate is normal. As you get in better condition, your heart rate will often decrease, sometimes into the 40’s to low 50’s. With continued weight loss and getting more and more physically fit, you will feel better and better. Keep up the good work and don’t think so much about your heart rate.

    60 bps is average at rest, it can vary up to ten bps, it tends to go down (to a certain extent) as your heart gets stronger (through aerobic exercise) and pumps more blood per beat so your heart rate is ideal, Personally, my heart rate is in the 50s (my father said that was good and he is a physician) also and I exercise 5 days per week

    You sound like an active person….athletes themselves have bradycardia [i.e. low heart rate] and it’s perfectly normal….the normal ♥ rate is 60-100….the 56 is just slightly below normal and as I said normal for an active person….do you have a family history of ♥ diseases? That is the only thing you need to be concerned about…the afib is an arrythmia, but is fairly benign with all the information you give….if you develope frequent dizziness or breathlessness on exertion you need to consult with your cardiologist to perhaps do a 24 hour halter monitor on you…best of luck.

    It’s fine. The lower the better, as long as it’s not caused by disease.

    Here’s a site with more info;

    I’d KILL for a heart rate like yours. Mine was 111 this morning. Blood pressure was a LITTLE high for me, but I don’t need that kind of heart rate. Happened to have an appt with cardiologist this afternoon. As soon as he saw the numbers, he immediately changed my med’s.
